- Made in India Takes Flight: Tejas and Dhruv Join the Force Hindustan Aeronautics Limited or HAL has handed over new Tejas trainer aircraft and Dhruv helicopters in Bengaluru. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu attended the handover ceremony. The Indian Air Force received two two-seat Tejas Light Combat Aircraft trainers and a Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 aircraft. The HTT-40 has been named ‘Ankur’ and will help pilots train in India. Four next-generation Dhruv helicopters were also handed over to Pawan Hans. According to the report around 57 percent of these aircraft components are made in India. ------- A second-year student of IIT Bombay died by suicide on Friday evening. He was studying in the Energy Science and Engineering department. Earlier that day he was reportedly caught using a mobile phone during an exam. According to IIT Bombay the student had uploaded the question paper on ChatGPT. The institute said no action had been taken against him in this matter. Police said the exam ended at 4 PM after which the student went to his hostel room. He was later found hanging inside his room. His body was sent for post-mortem. Students later held a protest on campus. ------- The Enforcement Directorate has detained Sukriti Foods promoter Kailash Chand Mangla in connection with the alleged adulterated ghee case linked to Tirupati laddu prasadam. According to the ED ghee was supplied to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams between 2019 and 2024 as special-grade cow ghee. The agency alleges that the product was made using palm oil palm kernel oil and other chemicals and was supplied as pure cow ghee. The ED says the total value of the alleged fake supply was around ₹230 crore. The agency is investigating the production supply and financial transactions linked to the case. -------- Several SpiceJet flights were affected at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday due to operational problems. Some flights were delayed while others were cancelled leaving hundreds of passengers परेशान. Airport staff were seen helping and explaining the situation to passengers. The disruption comes just days after a SpiceJet flight to Dubai was delayed by around 30 hours. Passengers at the Delhi airport faced difficulties because of the latest delays and cancellations. SpiceJet has faced flight disruptions at different times due to operational issues. Travellers have been advised to check their flight status before reaching the airport. ------- European NATO countries are preparing for a possible confrontation with Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. NATO members are planning to spend more on weapons soldiers and security infrastructure. Russia has repeatedly warned European countries against sending troops to Ukraine. During the recent BRICS summit Russian President Vladimir Putin said that sending European troops to Ukraine would be considered an act of war. US President Donald Trump has also repeatedly urged European countries to spend more on their own defence. Defence chiefs from all 32 NATO member countries met in Copenhagen on Friday and Saturday to discuss security plans. ------ Trump Signs Russia Sanctions Law India Faces Tariff Risk US President Donald Trump has signed a new law targeting Russia and Iran. The law gives the US government powers to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that buy Russian oil and gas. India and China are among the major buyers that could be affected. However the tariff will not automatically apply to India. The law gives Trump authority to decide how it will be implemented. The measure also targets Russian officials banks energy companies and other entities linked to Russia’s energy trade. India could face higher costs and trade pressure if the tariffs are imposed. ------- Gold and silver prices increased this week in India. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association silver became costlier by nearly ₹8000 and reached ₹2.37 lakh per kilogram. Gold prices also moved higher during the week. The rise in precious metal prices has attracted attention among buyers and investors. Prices may differ across cities because of local taxes making charges and other costs. Customers are advised to check the latest rates with local jewellers before buying gold or silver. ------- The 20th Asian Games will begin today in Nagoya Japan. The opening ceremony in Aichi will start at 2:30 PM Indian time. Indian shooter Manu Bhaker and senior kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat will carry the Indian flag at the ceremony. Shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor will not carry the flag because he has reportedly not received his Indian team kit yet. Athletes from 45 countries and regions will take part in 43 sports at the Asian Games. The tournament will be held from September 19 to October 4. India will compete across several sports during the event. ------ The monsoon may start withdrawing from western Rajasthan today according to the weather department. It is expected to gradually move away from Punjab Haryana Delhi and Madhya Pradesh before weakening in other states. In Uttar Pradesh rain activity may reduce from September 22. However flood conditions continue in some areas. Around 10000 people in 15 villages of Gonda are still affected by flooding. In Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar five people including a couple died in two lightning incidents after rain returned following a long dry period. Four people were also injured. -
