Indias Longest Water Tunnel Set to Transform 1450 Villages A major irrigation project in Madhya Pradesh is close to completion after 17 years. The 11.95-kilometre Sleemanabad water tunnel in Katni district is almost ready. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inspected the project on Friday and also met the workers. Once the tunnel starts water from the Bargi Dam on the Narmada River will reach Katni Maihar Satna Rewa and Panna districts. The government says around 1450 villages and nearly 2.45 lakh hectares of farmland will get permanent irrigation. In the first phase about 1.85 lakh hectares of land are expected to benefit helping thousands of farmers. PM Modi Virtually Inaugurates Redeveloped Tikamgarh Railway Station Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated the redeveloped Tikamgarh Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Scheme. The station has been upgraded at a cost of ₹16.77 crore. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav attended the local event in Tikamgarh after the virtual inauguration. Later he visited the Utsav Bhavan where he inaugurated the new Sandipani School and several other development projects. The redevelopment aims to provide better passenger facilities improved infrastructure and a modern travel experience. Officials said the project will strengthen railway services and support the regions overall development. Photos of National Leaders to Be Installed in MP Assembly The Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly will begin on July 20. Ahead of the session special preparations are taking place inside the Assembly building. Portraits of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose are being installed. The government is also preparing to introduce the Uniform Civil Code or UCC Bill during the session. Political discussions are expected to remain intense as both the ruling party and the opposition prepare for important debates. Fresh Protest Over Liquor Shop Shift in Bhopal Fresh protests have started in Bhopal after a liquor shop was shifted from Professor Colony to a new location near Ravindra Bhavan. The new shop is close to Lok Bhavan the Governors House and several government offices. Local residents and Congress workers strongly opposed the move. Earlier people had protested against the shop at its old location near Polytechnic Square. Following those protests officials shifted it about 300 metres away. The new shop has been set up on a concrete platform over a drain where liquor sales also started on Friday leading to fresh public objections. 400-Year-Old Cannon Stolen from Historic Narwar Fort A historic cannon believed to be around 400 years old has been stolen from Narwar Fort in Shivpuri district. The cannon belonged to the Scindia royal era and weighed nearly 3500 kilograms. It was kept in the open court area of the fort. Police believe the thieves planned the theft carefully and removed the heavy cannon without being noticed. Reports say the cannon could be worth between ₹3 crore and ₹5 crore in the international antique black market. Police have started an investigation and are trying to identify the people involved in this theft. Namaz Allowed Two Kilometres Away from Bhojshala The district administration in Dhar has allowed Friday prayers at the Chalis Pir complex located about two kilometres from the disputed Bhojshala site. The decision follows an interim order of the Supreme Court. Namaz has been permitted every Friday between 1 PM and 3 PM. However members of the Muslim community have refused to accept the arrangement. They say the new location does not match the spirit of the Supreme Courts order. The Bhojshala issue remains sensitive and authorities are maintaining security to ensure peace in the area. Bhopal to Host BRICS Meeting in August Bhopal will host a BRICS meeting from August 5 to August 8. Preparations for the international event have already started. Bhopal Commissioner Karmveer Sharma held a review meeting on Friday with senior officials. He instructed all departments to complete preparations on time and ensure there are no mistakes. Officials believe the event will improve Madhya Pradeshs international image and promote tourism and investment opportunities. The meeting is expected to bring delegates from BRICS member countries making it one of the major global events to be hosted by the state this year. Monsoon Becomes Active Again Across Madhya Pradesh After a gap of nine days the monsoon has become active again in Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain was recorded on Friday in Balaghat Umaria and Dindori districts. The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Balaghat and Dindori. Rain with thunder and lightning is expected in 31 districts across the state. Weather experts say a western disturbance will become active over northwest India on July 19. Because of this system another spell of widespread and heavy rainfall is likely to begin in many parts of Madhya Pradesh over the coming days.
