One Nation One Election May Start by 2029 The Joint Parliamentary Committee is working to introduce the One Nation One Election system before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Committee Chairman P. P. Chaudhary said around 99 percent of the people and organisations who shared their views have supported the proposal. The committee is meeting experts state governments and legal specialists to gather more suggestions. It has already held discussions with the Goa Chief Minister and state ministers. The proposal aims to hold Lok Sabha and state assembly elections at the same time. The government is still reviewing opinions before making a final decision. ------- Indigenous Warship INS Mahendragiri Joins Indian Navy India is set to strengthen its naval power as the indigenous stealth warship INS Mahendragiri joins the Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam today. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the commissioning ceremony as the chief guest. INS Mahendragiri is the sixth stealth frigate under Project 17A and belongs to the Nilgiri class. It was designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The warship is equipped with advanced anti-submarine systems modern missiles and stealth technology making it difficult to detect on radar. It will strengthen Indias maritime security in the Indian Ocean and support peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region. ------- Omar Abdullah Seeks Permission for Delhi Protest Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that his party has not yet received permission to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20. The protest is planned to demand the restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah said some people are trying to stop the programme. He added that the National Conference has been seeking permission for several days. The party has invited 52 political leaders to join the protest. Restoring full statehood has remained the party’s main demand since the changes made to Article 370 in 2019. ------ India and New Zealand Sign Historic Free Trade Agreement India and New Zealand have signed a historic Free Trade Agreement during Prime Minister Narendra Modis visit to Auckland. Prime Minister Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon also witnessed the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding. Mr. Modi said the FTA was completed in just nine months calling it a record achievement. He said both countries aim to double bilateral trade by 2030. New Zealand will invest 20 billion US dollars about 1.72 lakh crore rupees in India over the next 15 years. The investment will support Indias Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and strengthen economic ties between the two nations. ------- Trump Threatens Powerful Response if Targeted by Iran US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of a strong military response if he is assassinated. In an interview with the New York Post Trump said Iran has been targeting him for a long time. He said he has already given clear orders that if he is killed the United States should launch its biggest attack on Iran. Trump also said talks between the US and Iran are still going on even though the recent ceasefire has ended. Meanwhile reports say the US has moved some fighter jets away from Israel. Tensions remain very high and the situation in the Middle East is being closely watched by the world. -------- Sheikh Hasina Says She Will Return to Bangladesh Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that she plans to return to Bangladesh in December and surrender before a court. She made the statement during an interview with Reuters. Hasina said she is ready to face the legal process even if it puts her life at risk. She added that she wants to die on the soil of her own country. Hasina also said many senior leaders of the Awami League will surrender with her. She has been living in India since leaving Bangladesh after anti-government protests in 2024. She did not announce the exact date of her return. ------- Spain Reach World Cup Semi-finals Former champions Spain reached the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-final on Friday night in Inglewood USA. Spain took the lead after a costly mistake by Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Later Mikel Merino scored the winning goal to seal Spains place in the last four. Belgium tried hard to make a comeback but Spains strong defence stopped every attack. Spain will now face France in the semi-final on July 14. Football fans are eagerly waiting for this exciting match between two top European teams. ------ Monsoon Weak in 10 States Heavy Rain Continues in Eastern India The monsoon has become weak in 10 states including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and very little rain is expected over the next five days. Weather experts say rain clouds have moved from western India to the eastern region. Because of this states like Uttarakhand Uttar Pradesh Bihar Meghalaya Mizoram and Tripura are receiving heavy rainfall. In Mizoram rising river water and landslides have forced many families to leave their homes. Several tourists have been stranded for four days after a national highway was blocked. In Uttarakhand landslides and heavy rain have closed many roads while one teenager died after drowning in a river. Authorities have asked people to stay alert and avoid risky travel.
