A major fire broke out in the Delhi-bound Garib Rath Express near Sirhind station early Saturday. The blaze started in coach number 19 reportedly due to a short circuit. Many traders from Ludhiana were on board when panic spread. The loco pilot stopped the train quickly using emergency brakes and passengers escaped with their luggage. A few suffered minor injuries. Firefighters battled the flames for an hour before controlling them. No major casualties were reported. Rail officials are investigating the cause.
